The Good Light On: Personal Values (plus a free test to discover yours)

Values Driven

Last year, I lead a purpose-driven team through a creative project and we started with values. I’m personally very driven by my value system (deep down, I think we all are) and I love discovering what lights people up.

My creative team at Everly Agency often supports companies in developing their mission/vision/values, but I was curious to see if we could align on collective values through gathering individual assessments and discovering the highest common ground.

We did. And it was perfect.

I’m sharing my top 5 personal values along with a link to the free assessment below…

My Personal Values

One of the things I love about self-discovery work is how good it feels when you unlock a part of yourself you’ve never given awareness to before. Like a warm embrace, a returning home.

According to my assessment, these are my top 5 personal values:

  • Creativity

  • Pleasure

  • Health

  • Growth

  • Inner-Harmony

Those feel perfectly aligned with how I live my life and what makes me feel most alive. I’m curious what yours will be…

Value Systems & Why They Matter

A value system is a set of beliefs, principles, and standards that guide an individual's or a group's behavior, decisions, and attitudes.

Personal values play a crucial role in shaping who we are, how we interact with the world, and the direction our lives take. They serve as a compass that guides us on our journey.

For example, someone who places a high value on health & wellness will most likely give great importance to things like nutrition, exercise, and quality rest to support what matters to them.

Here are 6 reasons why values matter:

  1. Inner-Guidance: Personal values serve as guiding principles that shape our behavior and decisions. They provide a framework for understanding what is important to us and how we want to live our lives.

  2. Authenticity: When our actions align with our values, we feel a sense of authenticity and integrity. Living in accordance with our values helps us to feel more genuine and true to ourselves.

  3. Sense of Purpose: Personal values can provide us with a sense of purpose and meaning. When we live in accordance with our values, we are more likely to feel fulfilled and satisfied with our lives.

  4. Resilience: Knowing our values can provide us with resilience in the face of challenges. When we encounter difficulties, our values can serve as a source of motivation and strength, helping us to persevere and overcome obstacles.

  5. Loving Relationships: Understanding our own values can also help us build and maintain healthy relationships. When we share similar values with others, it can create a sense of connection and understanding. Conversely, conflicts may arise when values clash, highlighting the importance of being self-aware of our own values and respecting those of others.

  6. Ethical & Moral Foundations: Value systems provide the ethical and moral foundations for individuals and societies. They shape perceptions of right and wrong, fairness, justice, and social responsibility.

Living in accordance with your values contributes to greater life satisfaction and well-being. It enhances feelings of fulfillment, contentment, and happiness by ensuring that your actions are in harmony with what truly matters to you.
